What is the difference between these two oils?
Lavender Augustfolia is good ol’ lavender that is mainly used for its soothing properties that it has on:
- cuts
- scratches
- skin care
- therapeutic properties
- bug repellent
- insomnia aid
- treats acne
- helps with anxiety and depression
- calming
- relieves pain from burns and cuts
- stimulates urine flow
- soothes skin
- hair care
- improves blood circulation, etc. (there are so many other things that this essential oil does, but these are all the main things that I decided to put down.
Lavandin aka: “affordable lavender”, is a hybrid cross between Lavendula Augustfolia (regular lavender) and Lavendula x Intermedia (lavender spike) that give it a more camphor-ous properties and make more useful for in times of illness, respiratory aid, it is great for people who have depression.
It is often used for:
- stretch marks
- scars
- boosts respiratory
- relieves pain
- inflammation
- circulation aid
- sore muscles
- achy joints
- prevents infections
- reduces pain
Lavandin has also been compared to have more eucalyptus properties compared to regular lavender.
It is more popular commercially and in perfumery for its strong sharp scent. It also produces bigger flowers which means more essential oil for the cost of less.
Lavandin should not be used on cuts, burns, or open wounds. This is because it has as different composition to the gentle effectiveness that pure lavender gives. It will create more irritation on the affected area and in fact make it worse.
Remember, These two oils are similar, and yet very different. Do not use lavandin as you would pure lavender, these two plants ae used for different purposes and work differently.
Scent wise they smell very alike, and the Lavandin has an even stronger aroma than the Lavender does., hence why perfumery’s prefer it.
I enjoy both oils and use Lavandin for my “Rickety Bones” roll on. (click here for the recipe)
