Toner comes in many different consistencies and depending on the formula can prep you skin for the rest of your routine!

What is toner?

Toner is a skincare step that helps to add the water content back into your skin preventing epidermal water loss after the cleansing step. It’s essential to make sure that you’re not skipping this step!

Toner’s are normally made up of herbal extracts such as rice, green tea, artemisa, cica, snail mucin, rose or rose water, calendula, peony, lavender, etc.

There are many different consistencies and formulas when it comes to toners. The best kind to start with is a watery toner to add the water content back into your skin and then depending on your skincare needs will determine if you need a more viscous toner or face essence.

For all skin types this step is essential and should not be skipped. This is because when we allow our skin to dry out and then start slapping on thick layers of skincare, it won’t be properly absorbed and will dry your skin out even more because you’re not adding that water back into the skin.

Toner is a great way to prep your skin for better absorbtion of your other products. If you use a water-based toner before a more viscous essence, ampoule, or serum it will not only help prevent trans-epidermal water loss, but prevent potential piling, dryness, and proper layering can help oily to combo skin types to produce less sebum and be more balanced.
